Featured Neighborhood

The neighborhood called Bijou is one of South Lake Tahoe, CA oldest and most popular neighborhoods.  Bijou is located between Pioneer Trail and Highway 50, from Ski Run area to Rufus Allen Blvd.  Homeowners and visitors love this neighborhood due to its central proximity to Heavenly Ski Resort, the casinos, and Lake Tahoe. This is a desirable location for either a primary or a vacation home. You will find many homes in this neighborhood with meadow and mountain views.  Home prices in Bijou tend to be higher than the other neighborhoods in South Lake Tahoe.  This is because of in-town living, quaint historical cabins, many homes on large lots and level topography.

An interesting fact about Bijou is that this neighborhood began in 1929 when William Bliss (son of D.L. Bliss of Tahoe’s lumber industry) developed Bijou Pines.  Parcels measuring 50′ x 100′ were sold for $250 and payment plans were available.

Bijou is within walking distance of a public 9-hole golf course set in a beautiful meadow with vistas of Heavenly Ski Resort and Freel Peak. In the winter you will find many people cross country skiing and snow shoeing through this area. Also, nearby is the popular El Dorado Beach picnic area and boat ramp.  This park provides non-motorized boat storage and beautiful terraces to enjoy gorgeous views of the lake and weekly free concerts.  The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation complex is at Rufus Allen Blvd.  You can enjoy a year round ice skating rink, a swimming pool, seasonal playground and indoor gym. Shopping, restaurants and other amenities are also very close by making this neighborhood a top rated place to live or visit.
